RangSutra

A bridge between rural Indian artisans and the global market

Problem

Even today, Rural India does not have access to many facilities to help people enter the mainstream markets to utilise their skills. There are many skilled artisans in India, but due to connectivity issues, their skills never get a platform of appreciation.

Social Impact

  • RangSutra is able to affect the lives of 20,000 people by working with over 2,500 artisans and providing them with fair salaries, a safe workplace, and opportunities to develop their talents. With their incomes increased by five times, the ladies now enjoy greater freedom and higher social standing.
  • In 2018, Rangsutra started its foundation initiatives in Noorbagh, Srinagar. The main aim was to rebuild a sustainable environment and craft enterprise to provide rehabilitation facilities to the people affected by the floods of 2014.

Solution

Rangsutra Crafts has played a pivotal role in bridging the connectivity issues between rural artisans and global markets. These artisans have formed a community, with all the artisans being its shareholders. Rangsutra has provided training and grooming to all such brilliant craftsmen and equipped them with all the necessary support, especially to the women, enabling them to earn a livelihood and become small-scale entrepreneurs.
