Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
One in three people lack access to sanitation and clean water. People frequently have to go long distances to collect water, some of which may not even be fit for drinking, and to use open-air, unsanitary communal restrooms.
Here lies the urgency to work upon this goal. The advantages of having a clean water supply and sanitary facilities in a community, are considerably more extensive than just avoidance of countless diseases. It will result to women and girls to have more time to learn once they are not needed to daily go long distances to fetch water. Literacy rates shall rise. Safer water and improved cleanliness ease the financial burden of illness on families and provide women more time to work for themselves. Eliminating open defecation will make people safer, especially at night, as well as make the environment cleaner and the crops better. Communities can be made stronger and more resilient by making investments in water and sanitation.
