Gender equality affects everyone, not just the other half of the world’s population, because no nation can advance economically, politically, or socially if half of its citizens are sidelined. Even though there has been significant improvement in the intervening decades, much more has to be done to assure that women have access to a healthy life, an education, work stature and full social inclusion. Ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a fundamental human right, but also crucial for a sustainable future. The world’s female population must be better utilized to spur economic growth, lower poverty, improve societal wellbeing, and promote sustainable development in all nations.
