Milaan

Building a Movement of Girl Leaders

Problem

Collaborating with young entrepreneurs to enhance the quality of secondary education in rural areas.

Social Impact

  • As of October 18, 2007, Milaan Foundation was officially recognised as a charitable organisation by the Registrar of Societies in New Delhi as Milaan - Become the Change (NGO). Aside from being registered under sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act of 1961, the organisation is also qualified to accept contributions from abroad under the Foreign Contribution Act and regulations of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • In 62 districts in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Assam, 378 Girl Icons work with 7,560 teenage girls. EdelGive sponsors 250 Girl Icon fellows via the Girl Icon Fellowship Program. By establishing 1,000 social action projects, these girls will be able to interact with more than 100,000 members of their communities. The girls' leadership development gives them the necessary information, abilities, and networks to oppose societal norms that discriminate against women and girls.
  • Action for India recognised it as the Best Indian Social Entrepreneurship in 2019.

Solution

The non-profit organisation dedicated to social development, Milaan Foundation, envisions a future where all girls have access to education, opportunities, and supportive networks they need to realise their full potential. Milaan has worked with more than 40,000 young people and children over the past 13 years and has spoken up on behalf of safer and more welcoming settings for them on various state and national forums.
